We boarded the Interislander ferry, the longest running ferry service in New Zealand which run between the North Island city of Wellington and the South Island town of Picton. After returning the rented car in Picton, we boarded the ferry as walk-on passengers.
Within minutes our boat bobbed in the waves as we were greeted by dolphins which came out of nowhere. We relaxed and enjoyed the jaw-dropping views along one of the world’s most scenic waterways in the world. The 3h30min journey took us along Queen Charlotte Sound, Marlborough Sounds, Cook Strait.
Upon reaching the harbour, we disembarked at this North Island hub, rented another car, and set off for our hotel in the capital city of Wellington. We checked in at 'The Setup on Dixon' hostel and headed for a historic trip on the Wellington Cable Car. The top of the Botanic Garden offered us dramatic views of the cityscape and the rolling hills.
