We were already leaving Chiang Rai even though our hostel lady wasn't ready for our checkout. She thought we were staying one more night at the hostel. As a matter of fact, she was right, but we only realised it when we arrived in Pai, 8 hours later.
We boarded a VIP bus to Chiang Mai and a minivan to Pai. The first bus was extremely comfortable and last just under 3 hours. The second part was made of 762 curves that carve their way across the mountain from Chiang Mai and Pai. A pleasure for those suffering from motion sickeners.
Pai was a small town set in the mountains of Northern Thailand with numerous waterfalls, winding mountain roads to explore on a motorbike, bat caves, hot springs, zip lining, cute cafes and an easy-going atmosphere.
The once-hidden gem is now overrun with young backpackers which have washed up the traditional spirit of the village. Nonetheless, there was there's no arguing the beauty that surrounds the town.
After settling in our last-minute hotel, and enjoying the swimming pool, we explored the night market on Pai Walking Street.
