About This Experience

Shuhe Ancient Town is one of the best-preserved Naxi settlements in Yunnan, located just 4 kilometres north of Lijiang Old Town. As a key stop on the ancient Tea Horse Road, Shuhe was once a thriving trading hub. Today it retains its cobblestone streets, traditional wooden buildings, and a more relaxed atmosphere than its busier neighbour.

What to Expect

Wandering through Shuhe's narrow lanes, you'll discover traditional Naxi courtyard homes, artisan workshops, and small temples. The town's central square, Sifang Street, is a gathering place framed by old wooden buildings. Spring-fed streams run alongside the streets, and the backdrop of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain adds a dramatic frame to the scene. The pace here is gentler — ideal for photography and quiet exploration.

  • Visit in the morning for the best light and fewest visitors
  • The town is compact and easily walkable in a few hours
  • Local cafes and restaurants serve excellent Naxi cuisine
  • A short taxi or bus ride connects Shuhe to Lijiang Old Town
