About This Experience

The Sumidero Canyon is one of Mexico's most dramatic natural landmarks — a narrow gorge carved by the Grijalva River with sheer cliff walls rising up to 1,000 metres. Located in Chiapas, the canyon is a national park and one of the region's most popular excursions. Its image appears on the coat of arms of the state of Chiapas, reflecting its deep cultural significance.

What to Expect

Speedboat tours depart from the town of Chiapa de Corzo and travel the length of the canyon, passing beneath towering rock faces draped with vegetation. Along the way, you'll spot crocodiles basking on the riverbanks, spider monkeys in the trees, and a variety of bird species.
