Kalaw
We ventured in Kalaw to look for an ATM and visit the caves. Little did we know that tropical rain would change our plans completely.
All of a sudden it rained. Pouring down. We were stranded outside near a hairdresser and a cave. So that's what we did. David got a haircut for less than 2 USD and we explored the cave with hundreds of Buddha figures until the rain stopped, almost 3 hours later.
The cave turned out to be a blessing in disguise - filled with countless Buddha statues, it offered both shelter and an unexpected cultural experience. We spent time photographing the statues, chatting with locals also waiting out the storm, and watching the rain create rivers in the streets outside.
Preparing for the Trek
As we were hiking the next day, we became anxious about the trek and whether we should postpone it. We maintained the adventure but we needed to buy raincoats. Luckily tropical rains are no stranger to the locals and plastic raincoats were available at every shop. We got blue ones.
We headed back to the hotel for a good night sleep to charge our batteries before our trek to Inle Lake.
Kalaw essentials and trek preparation
