We took a river cruise down the Irrawaddy from Mandalay to Bagan - trading the roads for the legendary river that flows through the heart of Myanmar.

The Irrawaddy River has been Myanmar's lifeline for centuries, connecting cities, villages, and cultures along its winding path. Our journey from Mandalay to Bagan offered a completely different perspective of the country - one of slow-paced beauty, riverside life, and endless horizons.

As we departed Mandalay, the city's bustling energy gradually faded, replaced by the tranquil rhythm of river life. Small villages dotted the riverbanks, their golden pagodas glinting in the sunlight. Fishermen cast their nets from traditional boats, and farmers tended fields that stretched to distant mountains.

The cruise itself was a meditative experience. Unlike the rushed pace of modern travel, the river forces you to slow down, to observe, to simply be present. Hours passed watching the landscape transform - dense jungle giving way to open plains, occasional temples emerging from the greenery, children waving from sandy beaches.

As we approached Bagan, the first temples began to appear on the horizon. Gradually, more and more stupas revealed themselves, until we realized we were entering one of the world's most spectacular archaeological zones. The anticipation built with every passing temple, preparing us for the magic that awaited in Bagan.
