Hong-Kong to Delhi
Our Hong Kong adventure came to an end as we prepared for the next chapter of our journey - India. The 5-hour flight from Hong Kong to Delhi would take us from one of Asia's most orderly cities to one of its most chaotic. Little did we know just how dramatic that contrast would be.
The morning started with one last MTR ride to Hong Kong International Airport. We checked in our bags and said goodbye to the city that had welcomed us with crystal-clear cable cars, steep peaks, and giant golden Buddhas. The flight departed on time, and soon we were soaring over the South China Sea.

The hours passed in a blur of airplane meals, movies, and attempts at sleep. As we descended into Delhi, we could see the sprawling city through the haze - a vast metropolis that stretched endlessly in every direction.
Arrival in Delhi
Stepping off the plane, the first thing that hit us was the heat. At 35°C with thick humidity, it felt like walking into a furnace after Hong Kong's air-conditioned efficiency. Immigration was relatively smooth with our tourist visas, and soon we were collecting our bags and heading for the exit.
And that's when the real India began.
As we exited the airport, there were touts in every nook and corner trying to drag us into their cabs. "Taxi! Taxi! Where you going? Best price!" The cacophony was overwhelming after the quiet orderliness of Hong Kong. We tried for an hour to book an Uber, but the traffic was so hectic we missed the first two taxis that arrived. The drivers would call, we'd go to the pickup point, but the chaos of Delhi airport arrivals meant we could never find them in time. Transportation was not going to be simple.
Eventually, we gave up on Uber and negotiated with a prepaid taxi booth. The ride into the city was an assault on the senses - honking horns, weaving motorcycles, cows wandering across highways, and driving that seemed to have no rules whatsoever. The contrast with Hong Kong's organized MTR system couldn't have been more stark.
First Impressions
We checked into our hotel in central Delhi, grateful for a clean room and working air conditioning. After freshening up, we decided to venture out for a short walk around the neighborhood to get our bearings.
Poverty was everywhere, and maybe we were too tired to cope with it. Very young beggars made it all worse - children no more than 5 or 6 years old tugging at our clothes, asking for money or food. Street vendors lined every sidewalk. The noise never stopped - horns, music, vendors calling out, motorcycles roaring past. It was sensory overload after the comparatively quiet streets of Kowloon.
We rushed back to the hotel, feeling overwhelmed and guilty in equal measure. This was going to take some adjustment. The difference between Hong Kong's first-world infrastructure and Delhi's developing-world chaos was jarring. We knew India would be different, but experiencing it firsthand was another matter entirely.
Exhausted from the long day of travel and the initial culture shock, we drifted off to sleep, ready to tackle Delhi properly the next day with fresh eyes and more energy.
