Maya Beach
About This Experience
Maya Bay sits on the uninhabited island of Koh Phi Phi Leh, sheltered by sheer limestone cliffs that rise dramatically from turquoise water. The bay gained worldwide fame as the filming location for the 2000 film The Beach, starring Leonardo DiCaprio. After years of closure to allow its coral reefs to recover, the bay has reopened with strict visitor limits to protect its fragile ecosystem.
What to Expect
Most visitors reach Maya Bay by longtail boat or speedboat from Koh Phi Phi Don. As you approach, the towering cliffs open to reveal a near-perfect crescent of white sand and crystal-clear water. Swimming and snorkelling are possible in the bay, where marine life has visibly recovered since conservation efforts began. The surrounding cliffs and jungle create a natural amphitheatre that feels both intimate and grand.
