Les Cascades D'agua De Azul Et De Misol Ha
About This Experience
The waterfalls of Agua Azul and Misol-Ha are two of Chiapas' most spectacular natural attractions, both easily reached as a day trip from Palenque. Agua Azul is a series of cascading rapids and pools where mineral-rich water creates vivid shades of turquoise and blue. Misol-Ha is a single dramatic waterfall plunging 35 metres into a lush jungle pool, with a path that leads behind the curtain of water.
What to Expect
Most tours visit both waterfalls in a single day. At Agua Azul, you can walk along the river past multiple cascades and swim in the calmer pools — the colour of the water is most intense during the dry season. At Misol-Ha, the single plunge waterfall is surrounded by towering trees and tropical vegetation. A walkway leads behind the falls into a shallow cave where the roar of the water is immersive.
Practical Tips
- The waterfalls are about 1–2 hours from Palenque — most visitors join a guided tour
- Swimming is possible at Agua Azul in calm conditions — check locally before entering
- The turquoise colour is brightest during the dry season (November–May)
- Bring a swimsuit, towel, and waterproof bag for electronics
- Misol-Ha can be slippery — wear shoes with grip, not flip-flops
- Food stalls are available at both sites
