La Plongée A Gili Air
About This Experience
The Gili Islands — Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air — are renowned for some of the best diving in Indonesia. Gili Air, the quietest of the three, offers exceptional dive sites with warm, clear water, abundant sea turtles, and colourful coral gardens. The island has no motorised vehicles, adding to its peaceful, off-the-grid charm.
What to Expect
Dive operators on Gili Air cater to all levels, from beginners doing their first open-water course to experienced divers exploring deeper sites. Common sights include green and hawksbill sea turtles, reef sharks, cuttlefish, and a kaleidoscope of tropical fish. Between Gili Meno and Gili Trawangan, you can also visit the famous underwater sculpture garden — a circle of life-sized human figures on the seabed.
Practical Tips
- Water visibility is best during the dry season (May–September)
- PADI courses are widely available and competitively priced
- Snorkelling is an excellent alternative — turtles are visible from the surface
- No motorised transport on the island — get around by bicycle or horse cart
- Bring an underwater camera to capture the turtles and coral
